ZINC DIE CASTING EXPLAINED

What Is Zinc Die Casting?

Zinc die casting is a high-pressure manufacturing process used to produce precise metal components with complex geometry, thin walls and excellent surface quality.

Molten zinc alloy is injected into a hardened steel die, where it rapidly solidifies into the required shape. Zinc’s excellent fluidity and relatively low casting temperature make it suitable for detailed features, small components and stable high-volume production.

01 What are the main advantages of zinc die casting?

Zinc alloys provide excellent fluidity, high strength, dimensional stability and the ability to cast thin walls and detailed features. They also support a wide range of decorative and protective finishes.

02 Which zinc alloys does HordRT work with?

Common options include Zamak 3, Zamak 5 and ZA alloys. We recommend the alloy according to strength, surface finish, dimensional performance and service conditions.

03 What tolerances can zinc die-cast parts achieve?

Achievable tolerance depends on part size, geometry, die condition and critical features. During DFM, we identify where casting tolerance is sufficient and where secondary machining is recommended.

04 What surface finishes are available?
