What Is Export Tooling?

A complete injection mold engineered, validated and documented for transfer to your selected production facility.

Export tooling is designed to operate independently after it leaves the original moldmaker’s facility.

Unlike tooling intended to remain at the supplier’s molding facility, an export mold requires a complete standalone mold base, compatible components and clearly defined mechanical, cooling and electrical interfaces.

The mold must match the destination factory’s machines and operating standards while providing the documentation needed for installation, production and future maintenance.

01 What information do you need to quote an export mold?

Please send your 3D CAD files, available 2D drawings, preferred resin, expected production volume and tool-life requirements. Destination machine specifications and customer tooling standards should also be included when available.

02 What is the difference between export tooling and tooling kept at HordRT?

Export tooling is supplied as a complete standalone mold for operation at the customer’s selected facility. Tooling kept at HordRT may use our shared mold base system when appropriate, helping reduce tooling cost for low-volume production.

03 Can you build the mold to our component standards?

Yes. Mold bases, hot runner systems, standard components, connectors and accessories can be specified according to the approved customer requirements and destination factory standards.

04 What machine information is required for mold compatibility?

Typical information includes platen dimensions, tie-bar spacing, locating-ring size, nozzle details, mold-height range, clamping method, ejector arrangement and required electrical and cooling connections.

05 Will the export mold be tested before shipment?

Yes. Mold trials are completed to evaluate mold movement, filling, cooling, ejection, part quality and process stability. Agreed corrective actions are completed before final approval and release.

06 What documentation is supplied with the mold?

Depending on the agreed handover scope, documentation can include final mold design data, tooling drawings, component information, inspection records and mold trial information.

07 How is the mold prepared for international shipment?

The mold is cleaned and prepared with appropriate corrosion protection. It is then securely packed to reduce movement, contamination and environmental exposure during international transportation.
